For over a quarter of a century Rick McMahan worked in federal law enforcement. The bulk of his career he spent as a Special Agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). During his 25 year career, Rick investigated a wide range of crimes from violent militant extremists to outlaw motorcycle gangs; firearms traffickers (interstate and international) to murder for hire plots. He even arrested a serial bomber. In 2017, after 25 years, Rick retired an ATF Senior Special Agent. Currently, Rick is an instructor at the Kentucky Department Of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) where he has worked in the firearms and investigative techniques branches. In his spare time, Rick enjoys writing, and he has twice had stories published in Mystery Writers of America anthologies.
