5:00- 7:00pm – Jail Tours – Guilford County Jail, High Point, N.C. (Due to space and security concerns, tours to be filled by lottery. Lottery winners to be announced on Sunday 9-18-11) Vans depart the Embassy Suites Hotel at 4:30 pm and return at 7:30 pm.
6:00 – 10 pm – Ride-a-longs with Guilford County deputy sheriffs (Slots to be filled by lottery drawing. Lottery winners to be notified on Monday September 19th).

North Carolina weather is unpredictable this time of the year. Please be prepared for rain and/or heat and humidity. Outdoor session will take place rain or shine.
7:30 - Buses depart for academy. Please be on time. Remember, this is a police academy and the rules must be followed.

Crime Scene Investigation/Photography workshop - Recruits visit, investigate, locate evidence, and photograph the shallow grave burial site of a murder victim. This session is outside and will be held rain or shine. Please bring appropriate rain gear in case of precipitation. After all, murders do occur in the rain. BRING YOUR CAMERA! (insect repellant is also a good idea). Warning…be prepared for all the smells and insects associated with death. Instructor – Bill Lanning
Jail Searches - Recruits search for contraband inside actual jail cells. See how and where weapons and other items are hidden. You’ll be amazed. How good are your searching skills? – Sgt Catherine Netter.
Viewing the Crime Scene in a Different Light - Alternate light sources used by crime scene investigators, including the remarkable Krimesite Imager. Hands on workshop – Dave Pauly/Sirchie Fingerprint Labs/TruForensic, LLC.

Texting While Driving – Is it possible to drive safely while texting? Well, here’s your chance to find out, because you’ll do the driving and texting while Trooper Ingram of the N.C. Highway Patrol rides along as your passenger on a closed course. You be the judge!
DWI Workshop – You get to drive while drunk! No, actually, you’ll be driving on a controlled course while wearing the DWI Goggles, a device that impairs your ability to drive just as someone who’s had too much to drink. Instructor Eric Holloman -
Fire Station Tour – A walk-through, hands-on tour of a working fire station. Learn the ropes from one of the best in the business of fire-fighting. Instructor Tim Fitts

Bloodstain Patterns and Presumptive Testing - Dave Pauly (METHODIST UNIVERSITY)/Sirchie Fingerprint Labs/TruForensics, LLC.
Arson Investigation – Learn how the pros locate the point of origin of a structure fire. How they investigate arson. What happens when a body is discovered inside a burning building?Are arson investigators sworn police officers? This is a “hot” workshop!

Bioterrorism 101 - An overview of methods for bioterrorism agent dissemination and detection in the environment. Learn the signs and symptoms of infection and how laboratories identify the causative agent. This workshop is an actual behind-the-scenes perspective on these bad bugs! Instructor Dr. Denene Lofland
Fire Sprinkler Lab - Learn how fire sprinkler systems work and the steps arsonists can take to defeat them. An actual interior fire will be set so have your cameras ready! – Instructor Bob Halpin

DNA Testing: Then And Now – In a first-time-ever appearance together, join Dr. Denene Lofland and Lee Lofland as they guide academy recruits through the DNA collection and testing processes used over the years. Dr. Denene Lofland (teaching the “then” portion) and Lee Lofland (the “now” segment) were happily married until they began the planning for this behind the scenes writer-friendly session.
